92.5 million Americans rate their financial literacy as C, D, or F. What did you ever learn in high school, college or beyond about smart financial management?

I think there should be a personal finance class mandatory in high school. You can not rely on your parents to teach these skills. Most people learn spending habits after making deep, long term mistakes.

Also - if the parents have bad personal finance habits, then how is that going to teach the kid?

I never learned a darn thing!! I have a business degree from a great University.. Even in classes such as Corporate Finance, Economics, Business statistics, they still don’t teach real world stuff such as how to manage your finances..

I took a great class in a Community College at that…it was titled Personal Finance. It covered Checking accts, mortgages, harmful credit cards, stocks and bonds and life insurance. It was my favorite class. It is very similar to Rodneys teachings, but an elementary level starting from A-Z. I am sure his new book will do the trick… I just wish we could give it to the elder teens of America so they start off on the right foot.

Nothing, but in all fairness, when I was in high school (mid 70s) credit cards barely existed, FICO had not been dreamed up yet, and the best way to tell if you could afford a loan was to apply for it. If you couldn’t afford it, you got turned down. Easy credit changed the world for most of us.
